Booking Trains, Boats, and Busses Just Got A Boost

‘Ground transportation’ is still the most common form of transport worldwide, and this overall market is highly fragmented. Where is the single place you can book an entire journey not involving air travel? Berlin startup Distribusion connects booking platforms and ground transportation carriers. Their technology means passengers can search, reserve seats, book tickets, and pay for journeys seamlessly. Carriers gain more bookings through being in the network, because travel retailers such as platforms or agencies reach more potential customers. Carriers pay Distribusion only a transaction fee. For retailers, Distribusion provides all the tech necessary for invoicing, money collection and settlement processes, so only the API is required instead of many integrations with each separate carrier. Travelers themselves don’t see the system when they compare prices and options and buy tickets through the websites and apps they know. Interestingly, Johannes Thunert’s and Julian Hauck’s startup, founded in 2012, managed to grow in the last few years despite the pandemic. Which probably convinced investors such as Creandum to back Distribusion with €30M in their Series B round, as Techfundingnews reports. The money will be used to expand beyond the European and Latin American markets. Since mass ground transportation is one of the more environmentally friendly forms of mobility, Distribusion is even doing its bit to help reduce CO2 emissions.
